IRVINE, Calif. – A Rams team spokesman said Tuesday night that No. 1 receiver Cooper Kupp has a hamstring injury. Kupp left Tuesday’s practice with a medical staffer and did not return. The spokesman did not provide a timeline for Kupp’s return.
Coach Sean McVay said after the practice he did not know what Kupp’s status was and, at that time, had not yet spoken to the athletic training staff about the situation.
“I saw he looked like he came up a little bit on a red zone route, and then I just know they told me he was out for practice,” McVay said. “I have no more information than that.”
Kupp, 30, missed the second half of the 2022 season after suffering a high ankle sprain and then had a tightrope procedure to repair it. He also missed spring OTAs, but was practicing fully at the start of training camp.
The Rams’ receivers behind Kupp have also dealt with injuries through this spring and summer. Van Jefferson battled knee injuries, and has had multiple rest days in the first week of training camp out of extra precaution. Ben Skowronek missed Tuesday’s practice with back soreness.
“I hope he’s OK,” said McVay of continuing the practice in Kupp’s absence. “But I mean, we’ve got to be able to go practice. Guys have to be able to step up. Obviously, we’re much better when he’s here, and you hope he’s going to be OK. But if he’s not, we’ll see what happens. The practice had to go on and that’s what happened today.”
